Valorant: How To Change Account Name

Changing an account name in Valorant is simple, but not done through the Valorant client. This can make things a little confusing. In order to change a Valorant name follow these steps:

Ensure Valorant is closed. Head to Riot’s website and login. Head to the Riot ID Tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Type in the desired name. Hit “Save Changes”.

Unlike League of Legends summoner names, Valorant names are tied to a Riot Account and are completely free of charge for all players. The main issue about changing Valorant names from one to another is the one-month wait period that happens each time, this however is pretty common practice for online games. Make sure when changing names players ensure that they’ve chosen a name that they’d be happy with for at least that month period.

Another neat feature of changing Valorant names is the ability to change the tag (i.e the # behind the main name). This is a unique identifier for players which can also be changed to whatever the player prefers. This also allows for multiple copies of the same Valorant name to exist at the same time, which opens up more possibilities for players to share the same name. That means that a player can share the same name, as long as their tag is different and vice versa. For example, in this version of Riot’s naming system, if GameRant#NA is currently taken GameRant#OCE would still be available to use for another player. This also works with tags, so for example, if GameRant#Rant is taken, GameRant#Game is fine. Overall it’s a really great system that allows for multiple copies of a name to exist at one time without compromising their uniqueness.

Valorant is available now on PC.
