In Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, despite the number of characters Lenneth can recruit in the fight of the heavens, players can actually only have three other characters join Lenneth. Considering how each character may fall under a specific class and specialization, a player’s party may very well dictate their playstyle throughout the rest of the game. Understanding how teams work in Lenneth may help players have an easier time in the new Valkyrie Elysiumtitle.

Go Traditional: Lenneth, Badrach, Janus, Mystina

Sometimes, the best kind of team in a JRPG like Elysium’s predecessor consists of the traditional warrior-mage-rogue trio that can secure damage numbers quickly. In this particular team setup, Lenneth has fast bow attacks that may hit any opponent at any vertical distance, ideal for combos. Despite Badrach’s potential for dishing high damage numbers, he’s only useful in extreme short range, meaning players need to use him as a tank or DPS to secure crystals and combos.

When used properly, Janus’s direct attackscan fill up energy reserves quickly and enable PWS chains that can devastate enemy forces quickly. Lastly, Mystina as the staple mage gives the party a much-needed magical push to secure AOE damage numbers quickly.

Juggling Priority: Lenneth, Lucian, Aelia, Brahms

One of the best features of Valkyrie Profile as an action RPG is its juggling feature. This allows the team to potentially juggle opponents ad infinitum with the right combo string. First in this team is leader Lenneth, whose weapon versatility means she can secure defenses from afar with her bow, or devastate enemies up close with the sword. Teams will also appreciate Lucian for his self-sufficient DPS nature. He can not only launch opponents into midair, but even pull off aerial attacks with the right setup.

Spear-wielder Aelia is the next must-grab. Her thrusts not only enable ground and aerial combos, but also allow constant juggling with the right setup. Players interested in aerial combos may also want to secure Brahms for reliable juggling, though his lack of ground combos make him lacking in overall combat options.

Crystal Security: Lenneth, Aelia, Jun, Suo

Players interested in a group that may secure crystals faster to buff their characters in the Valkyrie Profile title may want to lead with Lenneth. Her bow allows her to make pinpoint strikes that juggle opponents, helpful for other team members who prefer close range. Those interested in securing crystals might want to consider Aelia. Both ground and aerial combos with her spear not only juggle opponents for multi-attacks, but reveal crystals as well.

Although Jun’s straightforward nature means he’s more fit for direct attacks, he does specialize in ground combos and his launcher as a last attack can facilitate juggling for the rest of the team. Players with a knack for outmaneuvering their opponents can use Suo to lead them into an attack, especially since he has a back-teleporting attack that can corner an opponent when used properly.

Priority Up Close: Lenneth, Lucian, Lawfer, Badrach

One of the best ways to take out enemies in an action game is to get up close, especially as some Valkyrie Profile characters feature long-ranged combatant built specifically to keep enemies away while the team closed in. Taking the lead here is Lenneth, with a bow that can facilitate either ground or air attacks that complement well with the rest of the team’s combat approach. Those looking for a self-sustaining combatant should look to Lucian, since his launchers and juggling attacks allow him to sustain combos with the right configuration.

Complementing the two is Lawfer, whose middling performance makes him more adaptable in any combat situation. While Badrach has the most potential to secure maximum hits, he needs to do so when up close and personal — especially when players know his combos well and generate both large damage and crystals.

Get The Quartet: Lenneth, Kashell, Mystina, Shiho

Sometimes, the best JRPG team with which to score the highest rank in Valkyrie Profile is the staple raid quartet: the tank, the DPS, the mage, and the healer. First in the team is Lenneth, who facilitates fast and loose combos at any vertical distance thanks to her bows. This can then tie into the rest of the team’s attacks, especially with Kashell. Kashell’s mobile attacks not only push enemies out, but may even counter them efficiently to avoid counter-offensives.

Players who want to secure one of the best mages in the game should defeat Lezard to get Mystina as an unlockable. Her arsenal of spells makes her an all-in-one tank. Complementing Mystina is Shiho, whose specialization in support spells make her an ideal healer in this setup.

Build Combos: Lenneth, Belenus, Lawfer, Janus

With an action RPG like Lenneth giving the way for hard-hitting attacks, sometimes it’s extremely fun to just see hit numbers go upward. Key to the build is Lenneth, as her bow attacks in particular not only page way to swift combos but may deter the enemy assault. Players interested in collecting crystals should secure Belenus. His attacks often lift enemies that not only enable aerial combos, but also juggle them for crystals, similar ot the multifaceted nature of tanks in Final Fantasy games.

Maneuverability is key to Lawfer, especially since his second attack is a pull that drags opponents back into the fray while his third attack is a multi-directional attack that is perfect to keep enemies juggled when hit properly. Finally, Janus’sstraightforward nature makes him perfect against bosses. His attacks add a lot of energy and may facilitate continuous special attacks.

Clear Mobs Quickly: Lenneth, Aelia, Arngrim, Mystina

Considering how boss fights in Lenneth are often ruthless, it helps if players can eliminate mobs quickly. To do this, players need to treat Lenneth as less of an action game and more of a tactical RPG. Thanks to Lenneth’s weapon flexibility, she can accommodate any combat role necessary to initiate swift team combos. Meanwhile, studying Aelia’s attack patterns can help players secure more combos with her ground and aerial attacks, ensuring additional juggling and multi-hit opportunities.

These complement Arngrim with his battle prowess, as his high ATK Power and DME prove vital in clearing mobs quickly. Complementing this physical damage approach is Mystina, whose arsenal of spells can help players secure the team’s safety from a distance.

Seraphic Gate Supremacy: Lenneth, Freya, Brahms, Lezard

With Lenneth capable of using a multitude of weapons, she can easily adjust her combat performance based on the role she needs to fulfill, be it that of a tank or a DPS. During Chapter 0, the presence of Freya adds much-needed versatility to the team, especially by the time players learn how to combo with her rather slow but hard-hitting moves.

Complementing Lenneth and Freya’s combo potential is Brahms. His attacks work to send the opponent flying, so that the rest of the team can dish out aerial combos against them, making him ideal to collect crystals as well. Lezard is a decent final member of the troupe, especially given his availability in tougher Seraphic Gate dungeons that could use his plethora of dangerous spells.

Physical, Magical Balance: Lenneth, Lawfer, Mystina, Yumei

An ideal party setup in any JRPG includes a balance of character types, which in this case may comprise two melee fighters and two magic-users. First in line is Lenneth who, due to her specialization with swords, may allow her to deal consistent damage up close as either a tank or a DPS. Players interested in playing with enemies should pair Lawfer with those that can pull off aerial combos. Not only does his second attack pull enemies in, his third attack is multi-directional and may keep enemies in the air.

Accompanying these two are a pair of specialist mages, starting with Mystina, whose arsenal of spells immediately transform the team into an AOE powerhouse. Last but not least, mermaid Yumei has an excellent plethora of Water/Ice Spells that can expand the team’s elemental arsenal.

Magic Supremacy: Lenneth, Mystina, Lorenta, Shiho

By the time players level up their favorite magic users, they may soon realize that keeping a lot of them in a team can transform squads into devastating JRPG kill teams. Leading the team is Lenneth, armed with a bow that not only hits enemies directly, but at any vertical angle, enabling swift combos. Alongside Lenneth is Mystina, whose spells become a decent long-distance pairing to the Valkyrie’s arrows.

Another sorceress to complement the team’s arsenal is Lorenta, whose average performance makes her perfect to boost DPS in any situation. Lastly, Shiho is a decent support mage that can buff the team’s performance and survivability. Shiho’s skills are a necessary component in this mage-heavy build, who are all known to have low durability.

Valkyrie Elysium was released on September 29, 2022 for the PS4 and PS5 and will get a PC release on November 11, 2022.
