Teixeira has now put up a string of 3 victories, the last of which was over Nikita Krylov this past September. In an interview with Combate, the Brazilian called out two Light Heavyweights who are potentially in line for a title shot - Jan Blachowicz and Corey Anderson. He said that he’s “super motivated” now (H/T Credits bjpenn.com):
Teixeira’s last defeat was in 2018 and against Corey Anderson in a unanimous decision. He said that he has always fought the top contenders and that the men who beat him have gone on to challenge for the title:
Since Anderson already has a win over him and a legitimate claim to challenge Jon Jones after Dominick Reyes, that fight doesn’t make too much sense. Facing Jan Blachowicz, however, does.
While Blachowicz has been calling for a title shot following two huge wins over Luke Rockhold and Jacare Souza, fans nor Jones seem too convinced that he’s ready to challenge for the title. A win over a veteran like Teixeira would give him three straight wins and undoubtedly line him up for a future title shot.
